How Beezi Flybynyt is Painting the Sound of Healing in Johannesburg

Story By MONDAYS MAG I Featuring Beezi Flybynyt Exclusive Story

In the pulsating heart of South Africa’s cultural capital, a quiet revolution is unfolding. Meet Beezi Flybynyt, a Johannesburg-based multidisciplinary artist who exists at the breathless intersection of electronic music, abstract canvas, and community building. He isn't just making art; he’s documenting a profound human journey. Through an intoxicating blend of sound and sight, Beezi proves that true transformation requires us to listen just as deeply as we look.

The Awakening of a Sonic Canvas

Beezi’s creative voyage began not in a quiet studio, but on the vibrant streets. As a high school fashion stylist, he was thrust into a dynamic world of galleries and festivals. It was here, around age 18, that the esoteric sounds of electronic producers like Bonobo and Flying Lotus sparked an awakening. "The music sounded so familiar to me, but I had never heard anything like it before," he recalls. Driven by this sonic epiphany, he studied music production in internet cafés. When his 2015 experimental IDM music project required cover art, a visual artist was born seamlessly blending photography, digital collage, and eventually, emotive painting.

Johannesburg as the Ultimate Muse

For Beezi, Johannesburg is far more than a backdrop; it is a living, breathing university. "The contemporary culture in Joburg is so vast," he explains, drawing endless energy from the city's creators.

This deep connection birthed Raving in Johannesburg, a platform he founded to foster the local underground electronic music culture. For Beezi, this community provides a vital sense of belonging a space where creatives can uplift one another while moving to the hypnotic, dark disco and techno rhythms that heavily influence his own unchained sound.

'Dear Diary' and the Courage to Heal

The artist’s most vulnerable offering to date is Dear Diary Pt. 1, the first chapter of a deeply personal three-part auditory and visual expedition. Rooted in therapy, newfound sobriety, and journaling exercises from The Artist's Way, the project is a raw exploration of looking inward. The standout track, "Entry 02: Afraid to Be Myself," strips away the bravado often found in the music industry. It’s a confession of the exhaustion of hiding in the dark and the fear of judgment. Created as a tool to heal from trauma and depression, Beezi’s work serves as a sonic sanctuary for anyone navigating their own turbulent waters.

Embracing the Chaos of Creation

Whether mixing bold acrylics on canvas or layering samples in Ableton Live, Beezi’s process is a fearless surrender to emotion. He rarely plans his pieces. Instead, he champions experimentation and randomness, allowing chaos to form its own beautiful patterns. "Sometimes the painting helps me understand the music better," he notes, using the physical freedom of brushstrokes to relieve the stress of audio production. This deconstructed approach actively rebels against the modern age of sterile perfectionism, resulting in art that is remarkably authentic.

A Journey of Becoming

As listeners prepare for the next chapter of his musical diary, tentatively titled Doing the Work, Beezi’s ultimate message remains a beacon of hope. His multidisciplinary art teaches us that finding true peace means accepting what we cannot control and focusing on the joy of the present.

Transformation is not an overnight miracle; it is a messy, beautiful, lifelong journey. As Beezi Flybynyt steps out of the dark and into his own light, he extends a hand to his audience, reminding us all: we are capable of profound change, as long as we take it one step at a time.
