Connor Taylor Is Proof That There’s More Than One Way to Build a Dream

The young South African creative turning passion, resilience and authenticity into an international journey

At only 18 years old, Connor Taylor is already building a career across modelling, hospitality, entrepreneurship and sports management a journey he describes as “amazing” and something he feels “very blessed” to experience. “The journey hasn’t always been easy,” Connor says, “but every challenge has taught me resilience and helped me appreciate every opportunity that comes my way.” From leaving school after Grade 9 to pursuing international modelling opportunities in New York, Connor’s story is one built on courage, self-belief and refusing to let society define success for him.

Finding Strength in a Different Path

“The turning point came when I was introduced to hospitality and cooking through a more practical learning path,” he says. “I’ve always seen food as both an art and a science.” That decision opened doors into the hospitality world through the International Hotel School and later opportunities connected to École Ducasse. Working at Radisson Hotel Group would later teach him discipline, teamwork and professionalism in high-pressure environments. Connor says those experiences helped him mature quickly and discover who he truly was at a young age. “Success looks different for everyone,” he explains. “There isn’t only one path to achieving your goals.

More Than Just a Pretty Picture

Although modelling may appear glamorous online, Connor says people rarely see the sacrifices behind the scenes. “You can attend multiple castings and not get selected, which is simply part of the process,” he says. “Learning how to handle rejection and keep moving forward is one of the most valuable lessons modelling teaches you.”

Discovered online by 33M Talent Agency through Instagram, Connor admits he never imagined social media would become such a powerful tool in reconnecting him with the industry. One of his most defining creative moments came during a shoot with Ruhan Breedt, where he finally stopped overthinking and allowed himself to fully embrace the creative process. “That project reminded me that growth happens when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone,” he says.

Chasing Bigger Dreams

Now preparing for international opportunities through Model Source Events in New York, Connor remains focused on growth, authenticity and inspiring young South Africans to believe in themselves. “I want people to understand that dreams require hard work, resilience and patience,” he says. “But they are worth pursuing.”
