As soon as I arrived at Suncity, I felt the energy hit me. Known as the ultimate getaway, I had marked the Fon City Suncity Takeover hosted by Homecoming on my calendar for months. The exciting atmosphere under the Olympus Awakens theme promised a legendary weekend. It was a thrilling celebration where fashion, music, and fun came together. Smirnoff played a key role in making it happen. Smirnoff ICE didn’t just sponsor the event; they dominated it.
From Friday, Smirnoff ICE transformed the Sun City Day Clubs into lively playgrounds of connection, flavor, and fun. Guests, including me, enjoyed the sun with ice-cold Smirnoff ICE in hand, while top DJs created high-energy sets that set the perfect tone for the weekend. As Ifeoma Agu, Head of Culture: South West Africa, perfectly put it, “Fon City is where the Smirnoff ICE world truly comes alive.” We immersed ourselves in interactive experiences.
We grabbed frozen ICE slushies and popcorn, played games, and danced to live music that mixed pure grit and groove. Each part of the takeover celebrated self-expression and shared energy. Music is one of Smirnoff ICE’s main passions, and Fon City came alive with unforgettable performances from some of South Africa’s biggest names: Kabza De Small, DBN Gogo, Dlala Thukzin, Julian Gomez, and Darque. Each artist brought a unique sound and energy to the stage, showcasing the diversity of Mzansi’s music scene and uniting us under one electrifying rhythm at the Day Clubs.
The choice of official Vibe Shifters was spot on. These individuals didn’t just attend; they became the heart of the takeover. They lifted the mood with every set and appearance. I watched Bafana "EazyNkabi" Mthembu, Siyamthanda Ndamase, Ntobeko Cele, Sipho "shy Scotty," and Amahle Sanqu draw in the crowd.

They were bold, unapologetic, and unforgettable. Their energy built to a simple, powerful chant that echoed throughout the venue: "yiyo yiyo yiyo!" captured the spirit of the weekend and quickly became our anthem, solidifying the Vibe Shifters’ status as true legends of the Fon City Takeover. This was definitely a moment for the history books, and I cant wait to see what SMIRNOFF has in store next.
